We finally did it. We decided. We’re going to Disney World!! We booked it! The most fun was deciding how to spring the news to our kids! Step-by-step Disney for Newbies planning post here. A scavenger hunt with the final clue as the big reveal would be our tactic. Twenty clues hidden around the house with various props and off we went. The video of how it went is next, but before you watch, let me say… “Wow, that sure didn’t go the way I had imagined.“ Our nine year old was not thrilled about me taping the scavenger hunt. He told me afterwards that he felt self-conscious which is painfully evident when you see his reaction.You’d think we’d told we were going on a trip to the dry cleaners. * yawn * He said he knew I’d show the video to “the world” {Um kid, I think you’re grossly overestimating your mother’s blog reach} so he didn’t want to over-act and chose to play it cool. I’m a WAHM. Not of the Careless Whisper variety, but the kind below {the first definition, though I sometimes sing “Stacy’s Mom while I work.} As woman who works at home, I’m in touch with my domestic side. And, as thrilled as I was to receive this present last Christmas *supremely sarcastic eyeroll* I would have much rather received something useful. Useful as in… something to make my office space more functional and comfortable and downright pretty. This is coming from a person who can’t sleep in an unmade bed or cook in a messy kitchen. Disorganized spaces are distracting. When my office is untidy, I don’t work as effectively. Everything needs to have a place. And if that place happens to be labelled, even better! Last week I received a basket of home office supplies from Staples. I’d been ogling several pieces from the Martha Stewart Home Office With Avery line and now I have them in my office! My now well appointed office. My co-workers seem to approve. I have to say, canines make terrific office mates. Until the door bell rings while you’re on the phone. Like a tipsy outfielder squinting into the sun during an eclipse, I’m dropping a lot of balls. My husband says I’m the most disorganized organized person he’s ever met, while my friends have suggested I’m in need of a calendar revamp. They may be right. My inability to sync my multitude of calendars plays a key role in this disorganized tale. In order to reinstate some balance to my topsy turvy schedule, the first thing I need to do is find a cohesive calendar solution. My current (flaky) system has not been serving me well. The fact that I actually have “Learn how to sync calendars” written on one of my calendars… is laughable. Here’s the mess I’m dealing with: Calendar 1: the traditional paper calendar that hangs inside my kitchen cupboard — which apparently you need to LOOK at on a daily basis to avoid missing important appointments…like your physical, which has now been rescheduled for four months from now. Or like your kids’ doctors appointments. When I write anything; whether it’s an email, a Facebook update, a letter, or a blog post, I try to keep it real. I want the person reading my words to hear my voice. I also want them to trust it. Recently a friend asked me about review blogs. “Are they for real?” she wanted to know. “I mean, people seem to love every single thing they get. How is that even possible?” The answer is…it’s not. When I’m asked to consider a product or service for review I only ever write about the ones I would recommend to a friend. I mean what I say and say what I mean. Fortunately I’ve been able to connect with some quality brands I love like Fisher-Price. Mom Central acts as the “middle man mom” between the brand (Fisher-Price) and the blogger (moi). They connect brands with bloggers who they believe align authentically with a brand’s message and products. Mom Central tries to ensure that toy testers receive Fisher-Price products that suit their age, gender and interests. Camp songs and campfires, silly skits and the Tuck Shop. I remember camp fondly and know this is something I want to share with my son. Eventually. The issue is, I’m somewhat over-productive. Fine, just put an “s” in front of mother and that’s me. The thought of sending my baby off into the wild without his mama to check on his well-being every fifteen minutes? The horror. When the two of us were invited to visit Muskoka Woods on a media tour, I was disappointed that we wouldn’t be able to go. It would’ve been the perfect opportunity to let my son get all campy WHILE keeping my eye on him. But, his birthday party was scheduled for the same weekend. Details had been arranged, RSVPs had been returned. Our S’more making hands were tied. A friend suggested that I at least give him the option. So I told my son we could either keep the party plans as is or reschedule and go to camp. Upon hearing the camp itinerary he said, “We get to go on a bus?!
