It’s A New Meme…Verbose Vendredi!

I’ve participated in Wordless Wednesday, but almost always unsuccessfully. I’m rarely wordless. I even talk in my sleep. So I’ve created a new meme —Verbose Vendredi. I planned on calling it “Wordy Wednesday” but since it’s now Friday, I added the french bit for you know, alliteration, which is a key element in all viral memes. Isn’t it? I honestly have no idea. I don’t even know how to pronounce the word meme. Is it ‘meem’ or ‘mem’? Now that I think about it, I should’ve I added MEME to the hate list… Anyway, a few chatty girlfriends and I got together for a good ol’ blab session and came up with this word list; words that make us smile and words that get stuck in our throats and make us gag. Sometimes a word just fits. So what that you made it up and bastardized the English language in the process? If it gets your point across, does it really matter? Here are few words spewed forth from my keyboard that aren’t in the dictionary, but fabsolutely should be!  Blunderment: an awkward or embarrassing moment brought about by one’s own stupidity /“That fall in front of my child’s school was a blunderment of unspeakable proportions.” Fabsolutely: an exceedingly enthusiastic, yet sincere “Yes!” response / “Would I like to spend a child free day at the spa? Fabsolutely!” Manderpants: mens’ underwear, most often found inside-out on the bedroom floor / “I swear,if I find those manderpants on the floor one more time, I’ll stuff them up your nose.” Sapimental: a sappy, sentimental feeling or display of emotion resulting from nostalgia;  often includes “happy tears” or the “laugh/sob” / “Pass me a tissue. I’m feeling a little sapimental today.” Halloweiner: a husband who takes great pleasure from scaring innocent children on Halloween.  “I can’t believe you threw a severed leg at those kids! You are such a Halloweiner!”  Commfitment: a vow to get fit, like, for REALS this time. “I have made a serious commfitment. Pick me up for Zumba ok?[…]

Words…

The letter M isn’t very commanding on its own. An E flying solo has very little influence. But when united in a word, they become powerful. I’m aware that I talk more than the average person and I don’t even say half the things I’m thinking at any given moment. I suppose this is why I enjoy blogging–it’s like a shunt, releasing the pressure of the words in my head. Words are beautiful when crafted by someone with a kind heart. Words can soothe when spoken by a gentle soul. But, words wielded by the ignorant and tactless can leave behind a painful mark. Last week my daughter happily drew lines on a chalkboard in our doctor’s waiting room. A woman sitting beside me asked how old my girl is. When I told her, she said, “Awfully small for three isn’t she?” The response in my head was, “Well you’re awfully stupid for 60!” What I actually said was, “Yup. She’s our little girl.” As my daughter drew, she and I communicated using signs. The woman leaned over and asked, “Does she talk?” I explained that she has a speech delay, but is a proficient signer. This woman then told[…]
