Evel Knievel Rides Into Summer

Goldfish Swim School Oakville

We’ve been trying to teach our daughter to swim for years—on our own and through a variety of classes, but success has been elusive.  We were optimistic about an adaptive swim class offered by the city, but once again, progress was minimal. The pool was freezing—like blue lips, could barely make it through the class, frigid. It was also large and loud, with way too many distractions. The instructors tried their best, but aside from one-on-one instruction, there was no real distinction between this “adaptive” program and a regular community swim class.  I was sceptical when I heard about the Goldfish Swim School opening near us. I didn’t believe it would be any different from past swim school experiences.  But, we decided to give it a try and holy sh…allow waters! Avery’s swimming has dramatically improved after only a few months of weekly lessons. She was swimming confidently, and with proper technique, after only four classes!  I’ve since recommended Goldfish Swim School to everyone!! Friends, neighbours, strangers on the internet, random moms in the grocery checkout line. It’s just so exciting to have found a program that is fun, safe and effective. We love it so much that my son is[…]

If you switch around the letters in the word PETS you get PEST. Granted, I’m writing this after getting up with the dog no less than four times last night. In his defence, he had an upset stomach. Treating the cat’s litter box like an all-u-can-eat buffet will do that.   By the way, how purrrfect is this t-shirt my daughter is wearing? I saw it and had to buy it. It’s basically our cat wearing glasses with our exact dogs reflected in the lenses. What are the odds?   After five cups of coffee I have decided to forgive Roger. This lovable dog has brought so much joy to our family, it’s hard to stay mad at him for long. In fact, as I’m watching him right now curled up at my feet I feel somewhat guilty for going all alpha on him at 4AM. I’m not my best self when I’m sleep deprived. The other robber of sleep this week is our cat. Kevin has been embracing his nocturnal side and waking me up at all hours of the night to ‘suggest’ I feed him or to just lie on my face.     We’ve never had a[…]

Evel Knievel Rides Into Summer

My daughter is happiest when she’s moving. Running, hopping, scooting around on her wittle bum, and of course,  climbing — her forte. The kid can’t sit still. I on the other hand am more than happy to sit until dust bunnies collect at my feet. But, when you have a child who is in perpetual motion, maternal sitting is rare. And as “enjoyable” as it is to play soccer goalie in the basement or hover helicopter-parent style under the jungle gym, sometimes I need a few minutes to do “frivolous” tasks like, you know, make dinner or unload the dishwasher. Occasionally (when the gods are smiling down upon my weary head) I’m able to cue up Netflix or set out some puzzles to keep this whirling dervish entertained and seated within view (because when she’s out of sight, THIS happens). So when the Fisher-Price Fairy delivered our latest toy to test, I knew it would be a win-win. Avery couldn’t wait to take it for a ride. No, seriously. Look at her. She couldn’t even wait for me to take it out of the box. If I had a dollar for every ounce of her enthusiasm, I’d be a very[…]
