Our Back To School #CartersOshKosh Fashion Picks + Enter To Win a $500 Gift Card!

When my son was a baby the majority of his wardrobe was from Carter’s. OshKosh B’ gosh; he was a stylin’ little dude. He obviously didn’t care if his socks matched his overalls or if his onesies had cute sayings on them, but I did. He was my pride and joy and dressing him up in cuddly outfits made me swoon. Thirteen years later his socks no longer match his pants. In fact, they rarely match each other. This man-child doesn’t give a care about fashion and heaven forbid I should lay out a super cute outfit like one of these for him to wear… So thank goodness for my fashion-loving daughter. She loves dressing up. Hair accessories, purses and bracelets, dresses, cute t-shirts and pretty sparkly shoes…she adores all of it. A few weeks ago, before I even knew I’d be writing this post, we popped into the Carter’s | OshKosh store near our house. We needed tall socks for “Crazy Sock Day” at Avery’s bicycle camp and I knew I’d be able find what I needed. Neon star and polka dot socks in hand, we browsed for a bit. My son was with us and I felt a sudden[…]

Superbowl Sunday Super Easy Snack—Football Brownie Bites

Lazy? Busy? Baking Challenged? I’m all three, so I made these super easy, super fast, super tasty, Superbowl Sunday snacks to bring to a party tonight. 1. Buy a container of Two-Bite Brownies.  2. Wash hands. Obvi. Squash round brownies into oblong football (close enough) shapes.  3. Pipe on white icing for laces.  Ta dah! Go Eagles! Or whoever is playing. I don’t actually follow football, but any excuse for a party…and brownies…

She’s Da (photo) Bomb…

It took a few years before my daughter was invited to a birthday party, but once she attended her first, she couldn’t get enough. The balloons, the colourfully wrapped gifts, the kids happily playing and laughing, and of course the birthday cake. Avery is hopelessly smitten with parties. And for some reason she thinks every celebration is all about her. I have no idea who she gets that from. Ahem…clearly the party animal doesn’t fall from from the tree. *I’ve never fallen from an actual tree, but I did get stuck in one after climbing too high on a dare. I had to be rescued. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t been wearing a skirt. Last weekend we helped our friends M and J celebrate their sixth birthday. We partied. Hard. Some of us even partook in a little photo bomb action… Of course this wasn’t the first birthday photo bombing incident. There was this one too.  *Note the teeny finger print in the icing…”somebody” just couldn’t resist fondling the fondant. Aw, that’s my girl. 🙂

Merry Halloween — What To Do With Left Over Candy

Halloween is terrifying. I’m not talking ghosts or ghouls or gore — I’m referring to the other G-Word — gluttony. Specifically mine. If there’s a Kit Kat or Coffee Crisp bar within a 500 foot radius, I will find it and I will put it in my mouth. So what are we “willpower challenged” to do at Halloween? Of course I buy treats that hold as little appeal to me as possible in case of left-overs. But then there’s the problem of the kids’ treats they bring home. Away at school all day, me at home…their candy calls to me seductively like a mythological siren. So in an attempt to limit my junk intake (because let’s get real… I AM  going to steal their treats) here are five ways to re-purpose candy for the next big holiday…Christmas!              If you think that keeping your paws of the candy for fifty-five days is a tad unrealistic (which for me, it probably is) then you might try one of these alternatives. 1. Host a “Build Your Own Sundae” party and set the candy out in bowls to use as toppings. 2. Add a little to trailmix or[…]

What? You want my autograph?

Last month I had the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone (like, WAY out) and film a segment for YMC T.V. The “behind the scenes” blog is here (with a link to the video segment). If Erica had asked me to do this years ago, despite her Ninja mind tricks of persuasion, I would have flat out said, “NO FRICKEN WAY am I doing that!” But, after the recent upheavals and subsequent adjustments to the course my life has taken – I’m changed. Not dramatically. Not even detectable by most, but just enough to be able to embrace the cliche, “life is short.” Really it is. Think about how many opportunities we forgo because of discomfort or unfounded fears. I knew that there was a very strong possibility that I would fall on my face and look like a complete ass working in front of a camera. I did screw up a few times in fact and said “ok” way too much, but the world didn’t end. It turned out ok. Shit. Said it again. Don’t you hate when you latch onto a word and it becomes your security phrase when you’re nervous or tired or stunned? I’m[…]
