Laugh When It’s Easy, Laugh Harder When It’s Not

Before Facebook and Twitter, we weren’t always privy to the intimate details of other people’s lives the way we are now. Today we Instashare everything — and not just the pretty moments.

I find this to be both horrid and helpful.

There’s no need to elaborate on the negative side of social media — the drama, the bullying (I’m talkin’ about grown-ups here) and of course the “I can never un-see that but wish I could” TMI bits. So let’s focus on the helpful.

Social Media, blogging in particular, has given me an opportunity to share the story of my family — from our daughter’s diagnosis of a rare chromosomal abnormality, to now and into the future. I’ve been able to connect with other families with similar experiences, as well as with people with typical children who simply want to understand or offer support. I’m grateful for both.

It isn’t easy raising a child with special needs; especially if you’re a worrier and a planner. But the one thing that helps me cope, is him —my partner in this thing called Family Life. He makes me laugh every day. Even on the really shitty days.

Know how they say, “Laughter is the best medicine?” Well, that’s the straight up legit truth.

I saw this quote (below) on Pinterest the other day and my mind immediately flashed forward to our old age and I wondered…

We will still make each other laugh?
We will like each other as much then as we do now?

God I hope so.

I don’t share much about my husband online. He’s rather private. This blog is written by me so of course the stories are told from my perspective and it might sound as though I’m in this alone. But I’m not. Behind every *great women, there’s a great man. And if she’s lucky, he’s a great funny man who makes her laugh and feel appreciated and loved and all the good things.

*Um, I’m in no way implying that I’m great or anything. I’m “decent” at best on a good day. I’m merely quoting the quote. Obviously. 😉

  • This is beautiful. This is our philosophy, too. I’d rather have someone to laugh my head off with than anything else. Honestly. Belly laughs, silent, shoulder shaking, ridiculous can’t catch my breath laughter makes my life happy.

And It’s wonderful for our kids to see.

I am so glad you have that, too. 🙂
